The game, published by Supercell in Finland, released in 2012 as a free game with in-app purchases. It received a good overall reception, and it even contains a single player campaign, which can give players some time to get accustomed to how things work without actually having to face real players right away.
Is Clash of Clans Worth Your Time?

At the lowest tier, Tier 1, the troops are somewhat effective, but not that strong. They will not do as great of a job when it comes to defending your area or attacking other players. Being able to have the higher level troops, including Dark Elixir Troops and Heroes, are essential to be able to take on other skilled players in the game.
One of the things that make this game a bit different is the addition of clan wars. This means that you and your clan face off against other clans. The clan has time to prepare, and then they go to war. Each of the players will have only two attacks during the war.
The team that has the most stars, awarded for destroying the other clan’s community, is the winner. The winners receive loot for their participation.

One of the things that many of the new games on the mobile devices have in common is the ability to buy items for the game with real cash.
