If you are in the mood for a tile puzzle game, then this is one that you will want to keep on your radar. Created in 2014 as a test by Italian developer Gabriele Cirulli to see if he could code a game, it’s become very popular since the release. In fact, it’s probably quite a bit more popular than the developer thought. Some have even compared it to Candy Crush in terms of its addictiveness. It is essentially a clone of a similar game, in this case 1024. However, that does not detract from the gameplay experience at all. In fact, those who are familiar with the other game should feel right at home.
How Does It Play?
The grid starts with two numbers, and you will tap, or use the arrow keys if you are playing on a computer, to move the tiles across the screen. When two of the tiles touch, they merge and become a single tile with a larger number. The tiles will slide all the way to the other side of the grid and will only stop when they reach the edge or when they hit another tile.
The goal is to get to the number 2,048 on a single tile without filling up the entire screen. While this concept seems extraordinarily simple, it is actually difficult for many who may not necessarily be “math-minded”. Those who do reach the “magic number” have the option of continuing to play, as this will allow them to increase the score. If the player gets to a point where there are no more possible moves because the screen is full, the game is over.
Should You Try It?
This is an interesting game, and it is a great way to spend a few minutes wasting some time. However, once you get the hang of the game, you will find that the addicting nature is quite true. It is simple to understand, but it really can be somewhat maddening to get to the winning number. Still, it’s a great way to train the brain and to do some simple math that gets to be a bit more complex over time. The game is free to play, and you don’t have to worry about any add-ons or other elements that you will need to buy. It’s nice and simple, and it might be just the type of game you want.
